Landscape Architecture Foundation Executive Officer
Barbara has a diverse background in both the private and not-for-profit sector. She brings ten years of award-winning marketing experience from IBM before making a career change to become a landscape architect. This experience was influential in the development of LAF’s Landscape Performance Series strategic research initiative. Prior to LAF, Barbara worked on re-greening cities from Hong Kong to Washington, DC. She served most recently as an Associate Director for BioRegional’s OnePlanet Communities program in Washington, DC to deliver Zero Carbon, Zero Waste, Livable communities. In addition she served as Senior Director of Casey Trees where she led the 2002 Street Tree Inventory, Citizen Forester Program, and 1425 K Street Green Roof Demonstration Project. She was principal investigator for the award-winning EPA Grant “The Green Build-out Model: Quantifying the Stormwater Management Benefits of Trees and Green Roofs in Washington, DC”, which has helped inform EPA’s proposed new stormwater ruling and the District of Columbia’s stormwater planning and programs. Barbara serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the Landscape Architecture Foundation. earned a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia, a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington, and was awarded a Loeb Fellowship at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Jim Manskey, PLA
Barbara Deutsch, FASLA
Jim Manskey serves as President of TBG Partners, a 30 year old purpose driven experiential design firm based in Texas and practicing around the world. In this role, he provides visionary leadership for all aspects of the firm’s practice as well as strategic operations and business development. He has helped guide TBG toward a more performance-based practice — which prioritizes the empirical benefits derived from exceptional landscape design solutions — as well as key focus on the environment’s impact on the human experience. Jim brings 38-plus years of wide-ranging experience to each project and excels at creating a unique sense of place that responds to the site, local culture and community context.
Additionally, he serves on the Landscape Architecture Foundation Board, which connects him with other industry leaders across the nation to advance and promote the profession, in addition to maintaining active involvement with the Urban Land Institute. Jim received his Bachelor of Science, Landscape Architecture, from Texas A&M University and was named one of six Outstanding Alumni by Texas A&M’s College of Architecture in 2015.
Mike Albert, PLA, AICP, LEED AP
Principal & Partner, Design Workshop
Mike Albert graduated from Oklahoma State University and earned a Master in Landscape
Architecture with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. With a broad and
award-winning portfolio, including multiple successful international design competitions, Mike
contributes an experienced voice focused on both design and planning. Mike is a member of the
American Society of Landscape Architects and a board member on The Cultural Landscape
Foundation. As a registered landscape architect, a national certified planner and a LEED
Accredited Professional, Mike is currently managing projects and pursuing business
development opportunities from Aspen, Colorado.
Maya Agarwal, PLA
City Planner II | Planning Group, Portland Parks and Recreation
Maya Agarwal is a parks planner with the City of Portland Parks & Recreation Bureau. Her experience includes park master planning, river land use planning, project management, strategic planning, feasibility studies, trail planning alignment studies, grant writing, and community engagement. She is also a landscape architect with several years’ experience in both the public and private sectors, with a professional and personal commitment to public space planning, design, and preservation efforts. She has participated as a speaker and panel participant at national, state, regional, and local conferences.
